Diving Videos from the Pacific Northwest and Beyond

As a beginning foray into local northwest waters, I am posting a very preliminary edit of a dive on the HMCS Saskatchewan, a truly spectacular dive off the west end of Snake Island near Nanaimo BC. This is one of the more unique BC artificial reefs with a wealth of life that has helped populate the nearby Cape Breton. I will have a somewhat better edit of this video in the near future with an even better version after I have the opportunity to return to this site. My second dive after this one was marred by the fact that the video camera was out of focus and while I got to see the cloud sponges in the wheel houses, the video did not come out correctly. This was true also of the gun mountings. So, take it as a first draft. The large fish that swooped out of range near the beginning was a three foot cabezon, the smaller dark maroon fish were juvenile yellow eye rock fish and the wolf eel at the very end was discovered as we were heading up the line with three minutes of no deco time, so iit was a quick and dirty task of getting the wolf eel in focus and then scurry up the line as slowly as possible.

And please rest assured that you will be seeing a large array of northwest specific diving videos in the near future.   You can find some of what you will be seeing here in the near future and much that you will not by visiting the predecessor to this site at http://www.nwdivemaster.com .  Also, I intend to implement a blog that will discuss both techniques in good underwater vieography as well as discussion of equipment, software and the trials and tribulations of video editing. I look forward to a healthy and lively exchange about techniques and equipment and software. And I hope to have examples of other underwater videographers more skilled than myself in many cases hosted here. Keep checking back here for the updates and most of all good safe diving.

Below you can check out some diving Video from Hawaiian dives on the Carthaginian 2 and Molokini Crater both at twilight and night. Please listen carefully on the Carthaginian footage for the sound of whale song. While it is not quite as clear as during the dive, it was almost deafening during our dive.
